Ray (1921-1992) transformed world cinema’s sense of what Indian film could be, from the Apu Trilogy through 29 features made over four decades. His house is preserved with enough literalness, study, screening room, design studio, to understand the scale at which he worked, down to original scripts in his own hand.
The collection also illuminates his lesser-known work: the typefaces Ray Roman and Ray Bizarre, which won an international competition in 1971; the Feluda and Professor Shonku story series he wrote and illustrated; and the film scores he composed himself from Teen Kanya (1961) onward. What emerges is a polymath and direct inheritor of the Bengali Renaissance.
