Headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity, founded by Mother Teresa in 1950. The building is whitewashed and purposefully simple; the first-floor chapel sits beside the small room she lived in from 1953, and the ground floor holds her tomb and a modest museum of her possessions. By 1997 this modest headquarters directed over 600 missions in 123 countries.
