Babu Ghat

Properly Baboo Raj Chandra Ghat, officially Baje Kadamtala Ghat (the name under which its evening aarti is listed). Built in the early 19th century by Rani Rashmoni in memory of her husband, with broad stone steps and an elevated Doric-Greek pavilion. Dawn here is the canonical river scene: the far bank emerging from mist, garlands and terracotta lamps drifting south in succession. The Ganga Aarti runs nightly (c. 7pm summer, 6pm winter) from eleven platforms, inaugurated March 2023, modelled on Varanasi’s Dashashwamedh Ghat ceremony and suspended on immersion days.
