Wildlife Watching from the Watchtower

Text Body

There is a forest watchtower within the village from which early-morning and late-afternoon wildlife vigils are possible. From the watchtower, one can observe a variety of wildlife, including chital, sambar, dholes (wild dogs), and occasionally gaur, emerging from the forest edge. Most notably, however, Asiatic elephants frequent this area to drink, forage, or traverse the landscape.

The best hours are the golden ones: dawn (roughly 5:30-7:00am) and the hour before dusk (4:30-6:00pm). Bring binoculars and dress in muted colours. Speak quietly or not at all. The Buxa Tiger Reserve's celebrated features, including the Royal Bengal Tiger (though rarely seen), are largely found within the forest surrounding the tower.
