Visit the Lepcha Village

A walk of around 1.5km from the main road brings you to a small cluster of traditional Lepcha homes. This is not a staged cultural attraction but a living community, so approach with the courtesy you would extend to any residential neighbourhood. Your homestay owner or the WBFDC caretaker can introduce you to local families who are often happy to share tea, stories and a glimpse of daily life. Conversations with elderly Lepcha residents, who remember a time when this forest was even deeper and wilder, are among the most memorable souvenirs you will take home.
