Situated in the nearby village of Anur, approximately two kilometres from Kamarpukur, the Vishalakshi Temple is dedicated to a form of Goddess Durga as 'the large-eyed one.' This site holds profound significance in the Ramakrishna biography; it was here, while walking with a group of village women to the shrine, that the young Gadadhar fell into a deep spiritual trance. The temple is of modest scale but considerable antiquity and its rustic setting gives it an informal, wayside character that contrasts pleasantly with the more managed pilgrimage sites. Taking a rickshaw or a long walk to Anur is customary for devotees and a highly rewarding detour for non-devotional travellers seeking untouched rural heritage.
