The Tiger Hill Trek

For serious trekkers, Chatakpur serves as an unusual and rewarding base for an assault on Tiger Hill (2,590m / 8,499ft), the celebrated sunrise viewpoint that most Darjeeling visitors reach by shared Jeep at 4am. The trek from Chatakpur travels entirely through the wilderness of the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary and requires an early start, a full day for the round trip, considerable physical fitness and a permit from the forest department. A local guide is not optional; it is mandatory both legally and practically.
