A set of three smaller obelisks marks the spot where three of Siraj's most loyal officers fell in battle at approximately 2pm on 23 June 1757: Bakshi Mir Madan (chief of artillery), Bahadur Ali Khan (commander of musketeers) and Nauwe Singh Hazari (captain of artillery). A plaque records that they died leading an artillery charge, the last coherent offensive action of the Bengali army. These three officers are the battle's true tragic figures: men who fought and died honourably while Mir Jafar stood aside with 15,000 troops and watched.
