The Taraknath Temple Complex

To stand before the Swayambhu Linga of Taraknath is to understand why three centuries of Bengali devotion have converged on this single spot in the Hooghly plains.
The Taraknath Mandir stands at the spiritual and physical centre of Tarakeswar, and any visit begins and ends here. The complex is not simply a single building but an ensemble of shrines, tanks, open courtyards, and devotional spaces that together constitute the sacred geography of Baba Dham. Plan at least two hours for an unhurried visit; on major festival days, allow considerably more for queuing.
