Sunrise over Kanchenjunga

This is the defining experience of Lepchajagat. Set your alarm for 4:30am and take a position at the viewpoint near the forest lodge or at Ghoom Rock. As first light touches the five peaks of the Kanchenjunga massif, the mountain glows in a cascade of gold, amber and rose before slowly resolving into the brilliant white of permanent snow. On clear mornings, you can also see Darjeeling town twinkling in the far distance like a handful of scattered lights. Few experiences in the eastern Himalayas match this for sheer quiet grandeur.
