Standing in a clearing amid the mango groves near the ASI obelisk, this gold-coloured statue of the last independent Nawab of Bengal was unveiled in 2007 on the battle's 250th anniversary, installed by All India Forward Bloc leader Debabrata Biswas on behalf of the India-Pakistan-Bangladesh People's Forum. It is a striking counterpoint to the colonial monument nearby and a deliberate reclaiming of the narrative. Many visitors find this the most emotionally resonant spot on the battlefield, a quiet acknowledgment of Siraj's youth, his courage and his ultimately doomed resistance to an overwhelming imperial force.
