A short toto or auto ride from the Gauranga Bari brings you to Baganpara and the home (now a small shrine) of Madhu Pramanick, the barber who shaved Chaitanya’s head. The name Sakhi Akhra means ‘a gathering place of friends.’ Madhu is recorded in Vaishnava hagiography as having immediately thrown his razors into the Ganga after the ceremony, unable to continue his profession having performed what he experienced as a profoundly sacred and painful act.
