Standing near the port of Beguakhali in the vicinity of the beach, the Sagar Lighthouse has guided ships navigating the treacherous sandbars at the mouth of the Hooghly since 1909. It remains operational and is maintained by the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships. The lighthouse is open to visitors and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding beach, the confluence and on clear days, the open Bay of Bengal to the south and the Sundarbans mangrove islands to the east. As a vantage point for sunrise and sunset, it rivals the beach itself. From the top, the geography of the island's situation becomes legible in a way that ground level cannot provide: you see the narrowing of the land, the rivers on either side and the great open sea beyond.
