Deep inside the forest are moss-covered brick remnants known as Nalraja Garh (also spelled Nalrajagarh). Popular local narratives connect it to the Gupta-era frontier world, but the site’s exact dating is not universally agreed: think “ancient/early-medieval ruins with layers of history,” rather than a single settled label. Either way, it’s wonderfully atmospheric: crumbling walls, root-wrapped bricks, and the feeling that the forest is patiently taking it back.

Local legend note: Guides may point out trees referred to locally as “Ramgua/Ram Gua,” said to ooze reddish resin/sap when injured, often wrapped in folklore about the fort’s fallen guards. Enjoy the story, but don’t peel bark or damage trees for photos.
