On the Durgapur (north) side of the barrage, the riverbank has been partially developed as a recreational area. Shaded benches and gentle slopes lead down to sandy stretches where local families picnic, children play, and fishermen mend their nets. A park development is ongoing along this bank; even in its current semi-improved state, it is one of the most agreeable green spaces in the city.
The southern side of Bankura is quieter and more rugged, appealing more to birdwatchers and those looking for seclusion. Both banks offer beautiful sunset views, with the water catching the light in long golden stripes in the late afternoon.
