This ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva dates to the 12th century and was built by King Ballal Sen of the Sena dynasty. It has been declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The most remarkable feature is the massive Shivalingam in the sanctum and a performance hall known as the Natyashala where religious events take place. The temple's antiquity and architectural simplicity make it a meaningful contrast to the modern city that has grown up around it.
