The house where Rabindranath Tagore spent extended periods between 1938 and 1940, hosted by his friend Maitreyi Devi, is preserved as a museum of personal effects, manuscripts and photographs. Tagore wrote Arogya (Recovery) and portions of Shesh Lekha (Last Writings) here, and the melancholy beauty of the misty hills evidently spoke to his late creative voice. The museum is modest but moving, especially for Bengali literary pilgrims, for whom this is a site of genuine emotional significance. A statue of the poet sits in the garden, his face turned towards the forest. Open on most weekdays; confirm timings with your homestay before visiting.
