The Pandua Minar, variously dated to the late 13th or early 14th century and soaring 38 metres (125 feet) above the flat Bengali landscape, is visible from both the Grand Trunk Road and passing trains. The tower and the adjoining Baish Duari (Bari) Masjid are ASI-protected monuments of national importance. The mosque’s basalt minbar features intriguing non-Islamic motifs, suggesting it was repurposed from a nearby Hindu temple. Across the road lies the mazar (tomb) of Shah Sufiuddin. The entire complex speaks powerfully to the region’s layered Hindu-Muslim history.
