The centrepiece attraction is the Maithon Dam on the Barakar River, a breathtaking engineering marvel that has become a popular weekend getaway and picnic spot. The dam stretches 15,712 feet in length and 165 feet in height, designed for flood control and generating 60,000 kW of electric power.

Highlights:

Sunrise & Sunset Views: The dam offers spectacular views at golden hour when the water shimmers and the surrounding hills glow.

Sabuj Dweep (Spoon Island): This island on the reservoir literally looks like an inverted spoon and is accessible via government-operated boat services. Free of human habitation, it's home to various animal species, so don't venture too deep.
Boating: Government-run boat services operate across the reservoir; a peaceful way to appreciate the scale and beauty of the area.

Flower Parks: Nearby flower parks display magnificent collections of numerous floral species.

After Dark: After sunset, witness the mesmerizing, glittering view of the nearby Maithon Thermal Power Plant across the dam.

Entry free; boat rides approximately Rs. 50-100 per person (best to confirm locally)
Photography restrictions apply in some areas near the power plants
Best combined with a visit to Kalyaneshwari Temple (5 km away)
