Mahakal Caves

A trek for the faithful and the adventurous. A 1.5-hour hike from Jayanti, partly along the riverbed and then scrambling over rocks, leads you to this sacred stalactite cave dedicated to Lord Shiva. The cave is a narrow, “living” religious site, and the journey itself, deep into a gorge on the India-Bhutan border, is the real prize. There's a “Chota Mahakal” (small) for easier access and a “Bara Mahakal” (large) for the more determined.
