The Lake & Wetlands

The heart of the sanctuary. Walking the shoreline path at dawn, with mist still clinging to the water and the lake lit golden by the rising sun, is one of those travel experiences that stays with you. In winter, the waterbody hosts an overwhelming number of waterbirds, sometimes reaching densities that are almost beyond comprehension. The five bils each have slightly different characters: some are shallower and more reed-fringed, attracting waders; others are open and deep, favoured by diving ducks and pochards.
