Established in December 1898 as the Bengal Nagpur Railway headquarters, this station is the bustling core of the city's identity, handling 176 trains daily. For decades, its combined platforms 1 and 2 held the Guinness World Record for the longest platform on earth (1,072.5 metres) until Gorakhpur surpassed it in 2013. Visitors can experience the visceral scale of Indian railways while enjoying local culinary staples: cheap, tangy aloo khasa and strong, sweet kulhad chai.
