This striking Kali temple in the Kanchan Nagar neighbourhood has a fascinating backstory: its idol was discovered in 1700 AD in the adjacent Damodar River, dredged up from the waters and installed in what is now the second Navaratna temple of Purba Bardhaman. The nine-peaked architecture gives the building an emphatic vertical presence.
