The largest shopping mall in West Bengal outside Kolkata, Junction Mall anchors Durgapur's City Centre district and serves as the social hub of the city, particularly for its large student and young professional population. The mall offers the usual commercial staples: McDonald's, KFC, Bioscope Multiplex and Shoppers Stop. However, the outdoor staircases transform into a lively social hub, for adda, as friends gather to chat, debate and sip tea. This scene is complemented by nearby street vendors selling popular local snacks like phuchka (pani puri), momos and kathi rolls. It's as much a sociological observation as a shopping trip.
