Jhalda (Raikota) Fort

The ruins of the old Bagri capital, built by the Chouhan kings between roughly 1555 and 1610. There isn't a great deal left: collapsed walls, the outline of bastions, some scrub, but the site has a fine end-of-the-line atmosphere, and at sunset the light on the laterite gets gentle in a way that makes the place feel older than it is. It's a side trip rather than a main event; combine it with a temple round.
