The Raja Tea Estate is a stunning piece of colonial-era landscape just outside the town centre, with rolling green rows of tea bushes stretching to the horizon and women in bright saris plucking the youngest leaves with practised speed. Many visitors arrange an informal walk through the estate in the early morning, when the dew is still on the bushes and the Himalayan foothills are faintly visible above the treeline. If you can time it right, watching a tea plucking session and sampling a freshly brewed cup is one of the more peaceful ways to spend a morning in the Dooars.
