Follow the river road east from the town centre and you'll quickly leave behind the shops and reach the sandy banks of the Mal River. In the dry season it's a gentle, knee-deep stream where children splash and fishermen wade. Sunrise here, with the mist rising off the water and the call of kingfishers cutting through the silence, is among the finest moments Malbazar has to offer. Photographers in particular should mark this spot. Bear in mind the monsoon-season risk and never enter the water if there has been recent rainfall upstream.
