Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI)

Located within the zoo complex, the HMI is a hallowed institution for mountaineers. It was founded in 1954, with Tenzing Norgay (who summited Everest with Hillary) as its first Director of Field Training. Even if you don't climb, the museum is fascinating. It's filled with historical mountaineering artifacts, including equipment from the 1953 Everest expedition. You can also see the samadhi (cremation spot) of Tenzing Norgay.
