Partially accessible; prior permission for interior visits
This handsome colonial-era structure served as the residence of the Private Secretary to Bengal's Governor-General, and later became the official residence of the Governor of Bengal during summer retreats to Barrackpore. It stands close to the river, shaded by mature trees, and represents one of the finest surviving examples of early 19th-century Anglo-Indian domestic architecture in the region. The building has been variously used and restored over the decades. The exterior can be viewed from the cantonment road; interior visits require prior permission.
