If you can, time your visit for November. The Raas Mela (celebrating Lord Krishna) is the oldest and largest fair in North Bengal. The town transforms. The Palace and Madan Mohan Temple are lit up, and a massive fairground pops up selling everything from clay dolls to cars. It is chaotic, loud, and incredibly vibrant.
