Mukutmanipur Loksanskriti Mela (January)
This folk-culture fair, held in the chilly heart of winter, is Mukutmanipur’s signature event. Folk music performances, Santali and tribal dances, cultural functions, and stalls selling local handicrafts and food make this a wonderful time to experience the region’s living traditions.
Raicharan Mela
Named after the freedom fighter Raicharan Dhabal Deb, who chose death over surrender to British forces, this memorial fair celebrates local patriotism with folk culture, crafts, and festive gatherings.
Tusu Festival (Makar Sankranti, mid-January)
Celebrated by the Adivasi communities of Bankura and Purulia, Tusu is a harvest festival honouring a folk deity. Beautifully decorated Tusu effigies are paraded and then immersed in the reservoir, a vivid and unique spectacle.
Palash Utsab (February-March)
When the Palash (Butea monosperma) trees bloom, painting the hills in shades of orange and scarlet, Mukutmanipur celebrates with cultural programmes and a festival of colour. It coincides roughly with Holi and is one of the most photogenic times to visit.
