Deulpara Buddha Mandir

About 6km from Tarakeswar, the Buddha Temple at Deulpara was consecrated in 1985 by the Dalai Lama and is described by official tourism sources as the only Buddhist temple in Hooghly district. The temple features a statue of Lord Buddha and a beautiful garden, offering a Buddhist site distinct from the Bengali Shaivite styles of the main town. Its existence in this part of West Bengal reflects the revival of Buddhist practice in the state and the Dalai Lama’s historic connections with India.
