Situated at the city's eastern boundary, Deul (also referred to as ‘Deul Park’) stands as a site of immense architectural and historical significance. The locality derives its name from the Bengali and Odishan term for a unique curvilinear temple tower, known as the rekha deul style. While more prevalent in Odisha, a magnificent example can be found here: the Ichhai Ghosher Deul. This towering, plain-brick structure on the southern banks of the Ajay River is dedicated to the goddess Bhagabati. While an Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) sign suggests a mid-18th-century origin, scholars generally date the edifice to the 16th or 17th century; it was likely commissioned by the descendants of the medieval Sadgop leader Ichhai Ghosh to honor his memory. Although recognized as a Monument of National Importance under the Archaeological Survey of India, the temple unfortunately remains in a state of partial neglect; nevertheless, its architectural qualities remain exceptional.
The surrounding parkland along the Ajay River, filled with mature trees and ancient ruins, offers a refreshing atmosphere suitable for picnics. Basic refreshments can be found at a small hotel-restaurant located near the temple, and the neighboring deer park provides visitors with the opportunity for close-up observations of the resident deer.
