Birdwatching

Lepchajagat sits within one of the most biodiverse avian habitats in the Darjeeling hills and serious birdwatchers should carve out at least a half-day for dedicated observation. Over 200 species have been recorded in the area. Particularly rewarding species to look for include the Fire-Tailed Sunbird, Rufous Sibia, Scarlet Minivet, Verditer Flycatcher, Stripe-throated Yuhina, Red-tailed Minla, Black Bulbul, Himalayan Monal (the national bird of Nepal), and if fortune truly smiles, the elusive Satyr Tragopan. Dawn and dusk are the prime observation windows. Bring binoculars; the forest canopy is dense.
