The trails leading through the forest surrounding the sanctuary are excellent for Himalayan birdwatching. Bring binoculars and a field guide to Indian birds (Grimmett, Inskipp & Inskipp remains the standard reference). Early mornings, particularly between 6am and 9am, are the most productive. The trek from Ghoom to Jore Pokhri through the forest is particularly rewarding for a range of warbler, tit and flycatcher species.
