Birding

Pedong and its surroundings are exceptional for birds. The increasing forest cover in local villages has brought a boom in both species variety and population. Visitors have recorded verditer flycatchers, golden-fronted leafbirds, grey-hooded warblers, scarlet minivets and numerous Himalayan raptors. Early morning walks through the forest near the monastery or down toward Rishikhola are productive. A local guide is highly recommended.
