The Bhutanghat Excursion

Approximately 45 km from Alipurduar (and reachable as a day trip from Raimatang with a vehicle), Bhutanghat is where the Raidak River forms a natural boundary between India and Bhutan. The landscape here is dramatically beautiful: the green hills of Bhutan rise on one side, India on the other, and between them the Raidak churns through a rocky gorge.

Elephants have been observed drinking and bathing at the Raidak. The area around Bhutanghat is part of an internationally significant elephant migration corridor between Buxa Tiger Reserve and Bhutan’s Phipsoo Wildlife Sanctuary. There is no overnight accommodation at Bhutanghat, so plan to return to Raimatang before nightfall. The road is well-surfaced on the NH-31 side, making this an accessible excursion.
