Batasia Loop & Gorkha War Memorial

An ingenious spiral railway loop 5km below Darjeeling. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train) completes a 360-degree turn here. The centre of the loop houses a pristine garden and a solemn Gorkha War Memorial, honouring the Gorkha soldiers of the Indian Army who died post-independence. The view of Kanchenjunga from here, framed by the railway tracks, is spectacular. Most visitors see this as part of the Toy Train “Joyride” or on the drive back from Tiger Hill.
