The “Great Golden Mosque,” the largest monument in Gour, was begun by Alauddin Husain Shah and completed in 1526 by his son Nasiruddin Nusrat Shah. Legend claims real gold was used in its decorations. The massive structure originally had pillars plated with brass and carved with floral and animal motifs. Though now in ruins, its scale hints at Gour's former grandeur.
